WEEE Compliance
What do the upcoming WEEE regulations mean for you in terms of headaches and costs?
|

|
WEEE stands for Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment. WEEE Directive 2002/96/EC mandates the treatment, recovery and recycling of electric and electronic equipment (90% ends up in landfills). |
You cannot just dispose of your waste to just any recycling company, WEEE requires the disposal of waste by reputed and registered Carriers.
Simply put, the WEEE Directive requires producers, distributors and resellers of electrical and electronic equipment to assist in the recovery and recycling of all end–of–life products, and to remove certain hazardous substances prior to landfill.
An organisation will even be required to produce evidence of the amount of waste it has sent for treatment.
Although the WEEE directive is still somewhat ambiguous, the consequence is that somebody will be liable and it is best that a procedure and service is in place ensuring that any waste generated is disposed of in an ethical and compliant manner.
thinstore are able to offer you a service through our WEEE compliant recycling partners. There are three levels of service available:-
• Recycling - refurbishing old equipment for resale or in some cases a donation to charity. This service does not rely on landfill disposal, thereby reducing costs and environmental burden
• Complete breakdown of equipment to raw components which are then recycled
• Data Deletion & Certification (wiping of data to US Department of Defence clearing and sanitising standard DoD 5220.22-M)
We are able to provide recycling services for both historical and non historical waste.
It is expected that recycling costs will increase in the future. With this in mind, we also offer the opportunity of recycling futures, enabling your to have the peace of mind that your future recycling responsibilities are covered for any new equipment purchased. What could be better!
