Each of the new IGEL Clever Clients in the Smart, Compact, Winestra, and Premium series is already being produced according to the RoHS European Union directive, which goes into effect on July 1, 2006.
IGEL is therefore the first thin client manufacturer whose entire product line complies with the EU regulation.
On July 2006, the RoHS directive (Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances) goes into effect throughout Europe. As of this date, companies have to forgo the use of heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium and brominated flame retardants in the production of electronic or electric equipment.
IGEL is already following these directives and, effective immediately, is RoHS compliant. |
IGEL is also one of the first thin client manufacturers to be WEEE compliant. (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment). This is the disposal of obsolete equipment according to the WEEE regulations.
According to statements by the Consumer Electronic Association (CEA), about 304 million electrical and electronic devices were discarded in 2005 in the US alone. In order to put a stop to this development, the EU is limiting the use of dangerous pollutants by introducing the RoHS directive, which includes an import embargo on all non-compliant equipment.
This makes thin clients even more environmentally friendly compared to conventional PCs, since they use about 50 – 70% less energy and resources than PCs. |
